Benozzo Gozzoli and the Chapel of the Magi: an exhibition for the 600th anniversary

Palazzo Medici Riccardi - Florence

December 16, 2021 - March 10, 2022

A path to understand and totally immerse yourself in a small great masterpiece: the Chapel of the Magi, inside Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence, which Benozzo di Lese, better known as Benozzo Gozzoli, frescoed on a Medici commission in 1459. Small masterpiece, because the dimensions of the chapel are modest. Great, because the frescoes with the Journey of the Magi and the Garden of Paradise, converging in the Adoration of the Child Jesus by Filippo Lippi on the altar, document Benozzo's mastery in the mural painting technique and the executive finesse in rendering the landscapes, the characters, intertwining sacred history, fairytale atmosphere and contemporary topicality, with an exceptional attention to detail already evident in a youthful work of 1439 such as the Madonna with Child and angels, which opens the exhibition "Benozzo Gozzoli and the Magi Chapel" set up at ground floor of Palazzo Medici Riccardi just as an introductory path to the rest of the museum and in particular to the wonderful family chapel for which you have to go up to the main floor.

The Tourist House Battistero is close to the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, distance: 5 minutes.
